Mat Vickers - Thermal Ecology of Skinks

My thesis examined the costs and benefits of thermoregulation, and developed and appliesd a null model for behavioural thermoregulation that allowed a temporally-integrated, continuous representation of habitat thermal quality. I use the model to predict the impact of changing cloud cover on small ectotherms, with the result that increased cloud cover ought to reduce the severity of future climate, and reduced cover will increase it. Finally, I assessed the utility of physical models to characterise the thermal environment, and the trade off between accuracy and precision in such an estimate.
